Much like all great cakes, GLAZE began with a spark of curiosity, which led to an impulsive inspiration. This whimsical fancy of patisserie was soon followed with the usual mixture of the perfect ingredients, a dash of patience, a lot of love, hours of toil and a trip to the pastry schools of France thrown in for good measure. With the ingredients mixed and the raw batter baked, creation was concluded, and with the typical opulence of all French fancies and the decadence of Parisian pastries, GLAZE was ready to be served. GLAZE is a bespoke brand, focused on bringing pure perfection to each occasion with an array of customised pastries and desserts. Each client’s experience is distinctive and perfectly tailored to his or her needs. Knowing the flavours, colours and ideas of the client gives GLAZE the opportunity to capture those concepts in breathtaking desserts. GLAZE is a must have at every occasion, from the latest French novelties or the time-honoured carrot cake, chocolate cake or cupcakes, GLAZE satisfies every indulgent necessity.
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME
Owner and head pàtissier of GLAZE, Marlizan de Necker is set on perfection. Having qualified as a chef in 2011, from the renowned South African Chefs Academy, under leadership of Garth Stroebel and Paul Hartmann, her zeal for all things sweet and delectable started. 2012 gave rise to a new chapter of intense engagement into the fine art of French pastry acquired at the infamous “Ecole Nationale Superieure de la Patisserie”, found in the picturesque town of Yssingeaux, France. Owned by the legendary Alain Ducasse, Marlizan received intense training of intricate French desserts, from her chef and mentor, Kyung Ran Baccon. After graduation, she found herself apprenticing at Deville Patisserie in Thonon Les Bains, under the father-and-son team. Each famous in their own right, father Michel, as Meilleur Ouvrier de France Glacier 1997, and son Frédéric as Champion du Monde de pâtisserie 2005 Lyon, and MOF de France Glacier 1997. Returning back, she set out to establish the art and enjoyment of French patisserie in the heart of our beloved Johannesburg.
